Where Inverness Eagles Begin Their Journey

September 1, 2025
A vibrant image welcomes September with sunflowers, eagles, and a blue sky.

From the Office of the Principal

Dear IPS Families,

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for helping us kick off a fantastic start to the 2025–2026 school year! It’s been wonderful to see our students, families, and staff settle into new routines with such ease and positivity.

We’ve completed diagnostic testing for grades 1–5 and are currently reviewing the results to tailor our instruction and support to meet each student’s individual needs. Your continued partnership in this process is truly appreciated.

A few important reminders for families who drop off or pick up students at the back of the school:
  • Morning Drop-Off: Please pull all the way up to the cone in the left lane before merging. This helps keep traffic flowing smoothly and safely.
  • Afternoon Pick-Up (Severe Weather): In the event of a lightning storm, we will not load students into cars in the usual manner. Instead, students will be called from under the covered area when it is safe to do so. This process may take a little longer, but student and staff safety remains our top priority.

Also, please remember to send a handwritten note if you are changing your child's usual transportation arrangements. For last-minute or emergency changes, contact the front office directly to receive administrator approval and further instructions.

As always, I’m available by phone or email if you have any questions or concerns. I truly value our partnership and appreciate your continued support.

Warm regards,
Mrs. Merchant
Principal

Adopt a Classroom or Program – Make a Difference!

The businesses and families pictured below have generously adopted a classroom or program—thank you for your incredible support!

Your contributions are already making a meaningful difference for our students and teachers.

You can help support our students and teachers by adopting a classroom or program (Art, Music, P.E., Tech Lab, or Media Center) with a tax-deductible donation of $100 or more.

Families, businesses, or even groups of friends can join together to adopt a class or program. Your generous support allows teachers to purchase special materials or fund experiences that go beyond the regular classroom budget.

To arrange your adoption or learn more, please contact Mrs. Forehand at (352) 726-2632.

Thank you for helping us enhance learning opportunities at IPS! We truly appreciate your partnership and commitment to our school community.

English Language Learners

ELL is a program of English Language instruction designed to help non-English speakers acquire English by using special instructional strategies with students at all levels: elementary, middle, and high school. Citrus County Public Schools utilize the mainstream/inclusion model. Research indicates it takes 1-1/2 to 2 years to learn social forms of English and 3 to 5 to learn academic English.

License Scanning Reminder

As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety, all visitors to IPS are required to have their driver's license scanned through our security system prior to entering the building.

Please note that, due to a recent system reset, all previously scanned licenses have been removed from our records.

As a result, everyone will need to have their license rescanned, even if you completed this process earlier in the school year.

To help avoid delays during upcoming school events—we strongly encourage families to stop by the front office in advance to complete the scanning process.

License scanning is available Monday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us provide a safe and welcoming environment for all IPS students, staff, and families.

Stay Informed: Conferences & Skyward Access

We are currently scheduling parent conferences throughout the month of September, culminating with Parent Conference Day on October 1st.

Please be sure to check Skyward regularly to stay informed about your child’s assignments and grades. If you need assistance accessing your child’s Skyward account, feel free to contact the school office for support.

School Advisory Council (SAC)

The School Advisory Council (SAC) meets quarterly on Mondays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. All parents, students, staff, and community members are welcome—and encouraged—to attend. You do not need to be a voting member to participate.

Our first meeting of the year will be held on Monday, September 22nd.

SAC plays an important role in shaping the direction of our school, and your voice can make a real difference. We strongly encourage you to join us and be part of this collaborative team!

Title I News

Research continues to confirm that parents are a vital part of the educational process and of the educational experiences of their children. When school personnel and families work together, relationships are developed that support learning and children are provided an enhanced opportunity for success in school and throughout life. As a parent, you play an important role in your child’s education. We encourage parents to be involved as much as possible. Volunteering, mentoring, and attending parent conferences are all parent involvement activities. Gain information and be part of the decision making process by joining advisory committees at the school and district level.

Asbestos Notification

Citrus County Schools previously developed an Asbestos Management Program for all facilities. Required re-inspections of the facilities are performed at six-month intervals. Information from these re-inspections, along with that from the original Management Plan, is available for review at each facility.

Access School Performance Report Cards

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), requires each state and school district to publish report cards that show how the state, districts, and individual schools are performing in terms of student achievement and success.
